New rig is nearly finished
So my new computer totally kicks ass, even with the defective RAM I got. It's in the process of being replaced, but in the meantime, I've got the new machine on life support with some old RAM from another tower. Even though it's limping along with some old, used RAM, it still manages to absolutely crush Crysis with 30+ FPS at 1680 x 1050 and 8x anti-aliasing.
Processor: AMD Phenom 9850 2.5 GHz Quad Core
Mobo: Asus M3N72-D nVidia SLI chipset with a 2600 MHz FSB!!!
RAM: 4 GB Corsair PC2 6400
Power Supply: Coolmax 950W
Video Cards: 2x EVGA GeForce 9800 GT SLI bridged. This may change, since the mobo can hybrid the onboard video into a 3rd SLI VPU, but only if I install Vista.....booooo Vista.....but it might be worth it.
Case XClio A380...yes aviation nerds, I'm sportin' an A380...ok, maybe not so funny, but both of those fans are 25 cm.....so it might as well be a jet.
Monitor: Asus VW222U 22" 2000:1 Contrast
Total price tag? About $1100. Cost of a comparable machine from, say, Alienware? About $2500. Just goes to show that a little tech knowledge goes a long way.....and makes you one hell of an ass-kicking machine.

Very nice. I'm thinking of building my own gaming machine. But that will have to be later with more time and of course, money.
Do you think this thing may be a little under power with you Power Supply: Coolmax 950W?
not at all. the whole rig ran very smoothly from a 600W power supply when i did the first build. the 950 was installed 2 days later and, in my opinion, is a little overkill. the minimum wattage for this system to even power on all the components is about 500W. the average recommendation for a system with these components is about 850W for peak performance. the 1000W+ power units are generally for people who have more peripherals than i do... a 5 point RAID array, for example. that, or they just wanna inflate the size of their epeen.
